Off the Waiting List and Into the Clinic
Last week a review on the state of the NHS was released. Much of it was not a surprise, including the significant number of people on waiting lists, and the subsequent number of work days lost due to musculoskeletal (MSK) issues.
The review recognised the burden on the NHS from MSK conditions - the problem is growing, but without increasing capacity there will be yet more people off work and on waiting lists.
The importance of community based services and preventive care was celebrated.
The British Chiropractic Association reacted by saying: "We are a fully qualified and regulated health care profession with significant MSK experience, yet we are currently a relatively untapped resource in dealing with the MSK crisis. Our chiropractors are ready to support in the challenge to get more people back into work quickly across the UK."
Preventative Care reduces Waiting Lists
For back pain, preventative care is the best approach to keeping people off waiting lists and improving work absence. That care can take many guises:
Specific exercises to help strengthen your back and joints
Walking regularly at lunchtime to get away from your desk
Occasional follow up visits with your chiropractor to ensure your joints are in the best condition they can be to give you good mobility
Think of preventative care like an MOT or car service. Or even a dental check up. If it is good enough for your car, or your teeth, why not your back too?
Remember, prevention is always better than cure. At the clinic we are happy to help with prevention and keep your joints in the best condition they can be. We want to keep you off the NHS waiting lists and off our 'emergency list'!
