We want you back for good

When patients visit us for the first time they are usually focused on fixing their pain. Once that initial pain has gone, they feel able to manage on their own.

Interestingly, as more patients are returning after lockdown, many have reported 'I can really feel it has been too long since my last visit'. Of course, this could partly be because they haven't able to visit the gym or have their regular massage treatment, but there is more to it than that...

We give patients recommendations on exercises to do at home, and advice on posture and ergonomics. We will regularly review these with you, and adjust as necessary. For some, we also advise regular sports massage. Often the discomfort patients experience is not through an accident or injury, but gradual decline. The pain is likely to be the cause of normal daily life activities - how you sit in the office, the way you drive, your standing posture, an underlying degenerative problem, a hobby, poor sleeping positions, or just general stress.

The reality is that, for most of us, we can't avoid those problems - we have to work in an office, or drive long distances, so we need a way of counterbalancing this.

Your body will try its hardest to overcome problems, but slowly, over time, your muscles and joints may stiffen up. This may, or may not, be symptomatic in the early stages, but in a follow up visit this may feel like tender points that weren't there before the visit!

For some people, the way to minimise this is through regular maintenance visits. This will help to keep you mobile so you don't stiffen up, and muscles don't get the chance to start tightening, to the point of pain. This will also help you to continue to get the best out of your regular exercise, and maintain your usual lifestyle.

Your maintenance programme will be unique to you. Some patients need a monthly visit, whereas others may only need to come in a couple of times per year, or only when symptomatic. You may benefit from massage therapy, or exercises to extend the duration between visits. But this needs to be designed specifically around your needs and body.

You may recognise the poster below from the clinic. Our goal is always to move you to long term wellbeing -  giving you the tools and techniques to achieve that. And regular visits may play an important role.
